12/13/2023 0 Comments Adobe illustrator make pixel perfectMost of the time, I want to nudge in whole pixel increments. The behavior seems intentional, but it’s not usually what I’m after. At 200%, nudging moves the point by half a pixel. At 100%, nudging with the arrow keys will move your vector point exactly 1 pixel. When nudging vector points, Photoshop exhibits some strange behavior, related to how far you’re zoomed in. I like to use Shape layers, though: they allow more control and editability and have better anti-aliasing. Pasting elements as smart objects doesn’t come with the same issue (at least not in Photoshop CS5 anyway). It may sound complex, but in practice it’s very quick you’ll only ever have to paste twice to get sharp vector paths from Illustrator. If the image is blurry on both axes, make the selection 1 × 1 and paste again. If the image is blurry on the y axis only, make the selection 2 × 1 and paste again. If the image is blurry on the x axis only, make the selection 1 × 2 and paste again. If you couldn’t be bothered noting your artwork’s dimensions, then by drawing an appropriately sized marquee, you can draw a 2 × 2-pixel selection and paste. The marquee doesn’t have to be the exact size of your artwork. If the artwork was an odd width and height, then a 1 × 1 selection would have been required. In our case, a 2 × 2-pixel selection would work just as well, because the center of an even-width-and-height marquee selection and the center of even-width-and-height clipboard contents would fall exactly on a pixel boundary, which is what we want. The marquee doesn’t have to be the exact size of your artwork, though. Drawing a 32 × 12 marquee selection in Photoshop forces the artwork to land exactly where we want it and to be pixel-aligned. Our test artwork is 32 pixels wide by 12 pixels high. The level you’re zoomed into and the portion of the document you’re viewing determines the result. If a selection hasn’t been made, then the contents are pasted so that the center of the clipboard aligns with the center of your current view. If you’ve made a selection, then the clipboard’s contents are pasted so that the center of the clipboard is aligned with the center of the selection. Photoshop’s pasting behavior works in one of two ways. Notice how only the top-left version is sharp, while the others are half a pixel out on the x axis, y axis or both. Artwork as it appears in Illustrator – Large preview.īelow are the same paths pasted into Photoshop a few times. Here’s how to fix that.īelow is some artwork as it appears in Illustrator: perfectly formed, snapped to the pixel grid, and at the size we intend to use it in Photoshop. a perfectly sharp image), but rather a blurry mess. If you’ve drawn pixel-snapped artwork in Illustrator and pasted it into Photoshop as a shape layer, you may have noticed that the result is not quite what you expect (i.e. To make things even easier, I’ve created some Photoshop Actions and Workflows that take care of everything for you. Rotating the entire canvas via Image → Image Rotation has no problem. But the issue affects only rotated layers, either via “Free Transform” or “Transform” under the Edit menu. This works brilliantly and is the simplest solution yet.īitmap and vector masks are affected by this issue as well, so please take care. To do this, click on a corner origin after selecting the Free Transform tool, but before rotating. An Easier Fix Changing the origin of rotation.Ĭhanging the origin of rotation to the top left (or any other corner) will ensure it is on a pixel boundary, guaranteeing perfect results every time. You could also draw a square on another layer and rotate both at once.Īs long as the dimensions for the layer or layers are even-by-even or odd-by-odd, it’ll be fine. Probably any method you can think of will solve this problem, be it adding a square bitmap mask to a layer or adding more content to the layer that you’re rotating. A Fixīecause even-by-odd or odd-by-even dimensions are the problem, we need a way to ensure that the contents of the layer are odd-by-odd or even-by-even. The results for bitmap layers and vector layers are different, but they both produce unusable results because the origin of rotation doesn’t fall on an exact pixel boundary. In this case, the artwork is 20 × 9 pixels: even-by-odd dimensions. But if they’re of an odd width by even height or even width by odd height, then you’ll see something like the result below: Pixel perfect rotation – Large preview. If it’s of an odd width and odd height, you’ll also be okay. If the layer is of an even width and even height, then you’ll be fine. When rotating layers with Free Transform (and some other tools) to exactly 90 or 270°, the quality of the outcome is determined by the layer’s size. If you’re not careful, rotating layers in Photoshop can damage them in a very noticeable, pixel-mashing way. 12/13/2023 0 Comments Whats in al pastor tacoCombine the pineapple, serranos, 2 diced small red onions, 1/2 cup chopped cilantro, 2 tablespoons lime juice, 2 teaspoons kosher salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper in a bowl toss. Soak 2 to 3 thinly sliced serrano chiles in ice water, 10 minutes, then drain. Finely chop the pineapple, removing the core. Peel 2 pineapples and cut into 1/4-inch-thick planks grill until marked, about 3 minutes per side. Dip a tortilla in the chile mixture, then add to the skillet and cook until lightly browned, 1 minute per side. Heat 2 tablespoons vegetable oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Toast for 15 seconds until fragrant, then transfer to a spice grinder or pestle and mortar and grind to a fine powder. Place a frying pan over a medium heat and add the cinnamon, clove, peppercorns, oregano and cumin seeds. Transfer the chiles to a blender and add 4 cups water, 5 garlic cloves, 1 diced onion, 2 teaspoons each chicken stock and kosher salt, 1 teaspoon each pepper and dried oregano and 1/2 teaspoon cumin puree. Shake out and discard the seeds, then tear the chillies into small pieces and set aside. Soak 20 dried guajillo chiles in warm water at least 30 minutes drain. As an alternative, you can crisp up the meat in a large cast iron skillet. Broil in the oven on the High broil setting for 5 to 10 minutes, or until crispy. Strain the meat from the juices and transfer it to a large baking sheet in a single layer. Remove the pork from the braising liquid and transfer to a cutting board let rest at least 10 minutes. Secure the lid and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 to 5 hours. Transfer the pork to the oven and roast, covered, 3 hours. Make the tacos: Place the pork in a large roasting pan and pour the marinade on top cover with foil and refrigerate at least 4 hours. Transfer to a blender and add the pineapple juice, orange juice, apple juice, beer, vinegar, oregano, paprika, annatto, cloves, 2 tablespoons salt and 1 tablespoon pepper puree until smooth. Add the chiles, onion and garlic and cook, stirring, until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes. Heat the vegetable oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. In fact, some of the images above will benefit from a little sharpening too. While we haven’t had a big issue with huge loss of details in the images we’ve worked on so far, it does happen from time to time. It’s fair to say that Topaz DeNoise AI does a good job with night photography as well. We haven’t lost any details we have improved them. The sky is noise-free and no stars have been affected but more impressively the mountains and foreground appear sharper than they were before. To the point where I left the computer for a minute to share my surprise with my wife. How will it tackle images with lots of details? What about minimalistic images? Night photography? Let’s find out. The images I’ve selected are all different as I want to see how well it performs on both “easy” and “complex” photos. None of these images have received any adjustments beforehand and are opened directly into Topaz DeNoise AI (i.e., not via Adobe Lightroom or Adobe Photoshop) To keep this as real and honest as possible I’m only going to use RAW files in this review. It’s easy to make things sound great in writing but I believe that the results will speak for themselves. The best way to answer this question is to actually run images through the program. Let’s get back to the question at hand: how good is Topaz DeNoise AI? Topaz DeNoise AI Review: Does It Live Up to the Hype? (Which is exactly why I use Raya Pro to create Luminosity Masks rather than doing it manually for each photo)Īt the end of the day, a noise reduction software is exactly that a tool that’s supposed to speed up your workflow and deliver the same, or better, results as if you were doing it manually. I’ve got nothing against learning a new tool but at the end of the day, the easier you can get good results, the better. Portrait photographers want the skin to appear sharp.īesides this, I do appreciate software that’s “dumbed down”. Landscape photographers don’t want the mountains to look as smooth as silky water. Far too often we see images appear soft after having denoising applied.ĭetails are important in the image. I kind of touched on this topic above as the main thing that I look for in a noise reduction software is the ability to remove noise while protecting details. What I Am Looking for in a Noise Reduction Tool The best results come from opening RAW files directly inside the standalone tool but I haven’t noticed a difference when, for example, opening the RAW file from Lightroom. It can be used as standalone software or as a plugin to Adobe Lightroom or Adobe Photoshop. The layout is the same as when used as a standalone tool. That sounds pretty good to me as a common issue with noise reduction has been images losing details and appearing soft. The long answer is that DeNoise AI is an intelligent noise reduction software that uses deep learning technology to accurately distinguish between real image detail and noise.Īccording to Topaz Labs, this allows you to reduce noise while recovering crucial image detail. The short answer is that Topaz DeNoise AI is a noise reduction software. So, before we open the first image, let’s take a quick look at what this software is and what its purpose is. Some of you reading this might be wondering what on earth Topaz DeNoise AI is. Keep on reading this Topaz DeNoise AI review to find out whether noisy images can be salvaged or not (and if it works for night photography too)Īlready know what DeNoise AI is?
